"Uncanny but not Unreal" is how artist Ethan Logan described the work he presented in his ambitious solo-exhibition, A Social Medium, earlier this year at the New Glasgow Society. The creative we're all bound to hear more about soon, featured a number of paintings which collectively centred around themes of social media and its impact on individuals, communities, culture and wider media. "Individually," the artist said, "my paintings focus more intently on the content which floats freely through the feeds of the individual patron of social media." The environment that he created was one of an inward analysis of our relationships with the content that we consume on the basis that, whether intently or passively, social media nestles into our brains a bit too comfortably. Logan's work captures slippery sides of it bringing it to the surface and confronting us with the question of whether this is really what we want to giggle at in our free time.
